We use research methods to engage patients, service users and members of the public. This is part of our approach to person-centered care. This approach informs improvement and re-design activities across health and social care in Scotland.
We may undertake research as part of our core work programmes. This helps us to develop and improve NHSScotland services. Our processes make sure we consider confidentiality and security issues. This work often uses information from several healthcare providers. If so, the work is normally scrutinised by the Public Benefit and Privacy Panel for Health and Social Care. Some specific types of research may also need approval from a relevant research ethics committee.
