Inspecting the provision of healthcare to individuals within the criminal justice system
We play a crucial role in providing quality assurance of the healthcare provided to people within the justice system.
We do this by managing the healthcare element of:
- His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Prisons for Scotland (HMIPS) inspections of prisons
- His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland (HMICS) of police custody centres
We work to ensure individuals in custody and prison receive equitable healthcare and support compared to the general population, while considering the constraints of the prison or custody environment.
