Summary

We are developing standards for pregnancy screening: chromosomal and health conditions.

These standards relate to the national screening programme to assess the chance of a baby having:

  • Down’s syndrome, Edwards’ syndrome or Patau’s syndrome
  • One of eleven conditions screened at the mid pregnancy scan including spina bifida and cardiac conditions

These standards are a review of the 2019 Pregnancy screening: Fetal anomaly standards.

The consultation on the draft standards has now closed.

Consultation feedback

A summary of the responses to the consultation will be made available on request. You can request them from the project team at his.screeningstandards@nhs.scot

The remaining pregnancy and newborn screening standards will be reviewed at a later date and remain current. These are

  • Haemoglobinopathies in pregnancy
  • Infectious diseases in pregnancy
  • Newborn blood spot screening
  • Newborn hearing screening
