Non Executive Director recruitment
We are looking for a new Non Executive Director to join our board.
Healthcare Improvement Scotland is the national improvement agency. We look after health and care in Scotland.
Our aim is to secure lasting, positive, and sustainable improvements across the whole health and care system.
We are looking for candidates who’ve had Board level experience. This can be in either the private or public sectors.
They will ideally be an experienced senior leader. They will bring robust challenge, fresh thinking, sound judgement and political acumen.

Carole Wilkinson is our chair. She said: “Non-executive directors come from a variety of backgrounds.
“They bring a range of experience, knowledge and skills.
“They oversee the strategic direction of the organisation. They help with the management of the resources, both people and money.
“We’re looking for somebody who’s curious, willing to ask questions, and someone who can work as part of a team. We also need them to be a champion and promote the work of HIS.”
Candidates should be able to:
- Show extensive senior level leadership experience
- Have a strong understanding of corporate governance, and delivering robust governance and accountability
- Possess strong strategic skills, with an emphasis on effective implementation
- Exceptional communication skills, and understanding of the importance of demonstrating impact
- Sound judgement
- Able to consider and provide challenge on complex issues from an impartial and balanced viewpoint
