Summary

We carried out an unannounced inspection to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde on Monday 8 to Wednesday 10 April 2024.

During our inspection of the Royal Alexandra Hospital, we:

• inspected the wards and hospital environment
• observed staff practice and interactions with patients, such as during patient mealtimes
• spoke with patients, visitors and ward staff
• accessed patients’ health records, monitoring reports, policies and procedures

Our findings

This inspection resulted in nine areas of good practice, two recommendations and 10 requirements.

“During our inspection of the Emergency Department of Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, and the hospital wide inspection of Royal Alexandra Hospital, we found them both to be calm and well-led. Areas for improvement have been identified and improvement action plans have been developed by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.”

Donna Maclean, Chief Inspector, Healthcare Improvement Scotland
